Gemayel Advocates for Media Reform to Safeguard Freedoms in Meeting with Morcos

Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel met with Lebanon’s new Minister of Information, Dr. Paul Morcos, to discuss the state of media in the country and the need for modernizing relevant regulations.

The meeting, held at Gemayel's office in Bikfaya, focused on the draft law governing the country’s audiovisual and broadcast media, underscoring the urgent need for legislative reforms in the media sector.

Gemayel emphasized the critical importance of enacting a modern media law that not only keeps pace with rapid technological advancements but also safeguards fundamental rights, including the protection of public freedoms and the right to free expression. He noted that such reforms should align with President Joseph Aoun's inaugural speech and reflect the spirit of Lebanon's new political era, a time of transition toward greater freedoms and democratic principles.

By highlighting the importance of both technological adaptation and the protection of civil liberties, Gemayel is advocating for a balanced approach to media reform that respects Lebanon's democratic values while embracing modern innovations.

The meeting was attended by Alain Hakim, a member of the Kataeb political bureau; Dr. Bernard Gerbaka, Deputy Head of the Kataeb Party; Serge Dagher, Kataeb Party Secretary-General; and Assaad Maroun, Director-General of Voice of Lebanon Radio.
