Why Syrian Intervention in Lebanon Would Be a Disaster
US President Donald Trump has bluntly signaled, several times, that he would encourage a military intervention in Lebanon by the forces of Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa. His logic seems to be that in the same way Al-Sharaa’s forces succeeded in toppling Bashar Assad and his regime in Syria, who had support from Hezbollah fighters, they could also defeat Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, any Syrian intervention in Lebanon would be disastrous, with an even worse outcome than the decades-long military occupation by the former Assad regime.

European Team to Question Youssef Khalil Next Week
Since he did not attend yesterday's session, another date will be set next week to hear the Minister of Finance Youssef Khalil.
In addition, another session will be scheduled to hear the brother of the Central Bank Governor Raja Salameh who did not attend the session scheduled earlier this week, for medical reasons.
The European investigators will also hear from officials in the Central Bank's auditing companies (Ernst&Young, Deloitte, Semaan Gholam&Co), former directors at the Central Bank, as well as bankers.
