Economy Minister Amin Salam issued a circular on Thursday asking all supermarkets to submit the prices of their main commodities to the ministry every Monday, in an attempt to ensure consumer protection and combat high prices.
Here’s what we know:
• The minister issued a circular enforcing the implementation of Resolution No. 1/277 dated June 15, 1972, on Determining Commercial Profit Rates and the maximum profit rates for wholesale trade.
• The ministry attempts to monitor the movement of the prices of foodstuffs and basic consumer goods at various points of sale, and to ensure consumer protection, prevent exploitation and combat price prices, the circular reads.
• All supermarkets must send the Economy Ministry an email with the prices of their main commodities, every Monday of each week, it continues.
