Cars piled into gas stations across the country on Monday amid fears of a fuel crisis due to the strike staged by the Customs Department employees.
Drivers queued to fill their tanks after George Brax, head of the Brax Petroleum Group, warned of a fuel shortage should the strike go on.
A statement issued by the union of oil importers in Lebanon said that companies have failed to deliver new stocks to gas stations, warning of the chaos and disturbance that supply disruption will cause.
Sources told the Kataeb website that some gas stations have set a maximum filling charge at LBP 20,000 ($13) while others allowed drivers to fill their tanks with up to LBP 30,000 ($20).
Later, Energy Minister Nada Boustani said via Twitter that gas stations will be supplied with gasoline following a phone call with the Customs head Badri Daher, assuring that there will be no fuel crisis in the country.
