Dagher Stresses Urgency of January 9 Presidential Election Session to Rebuild State Amid Regional Challenges

Kataeb Secretary General Serge highlighted that the atmosphere of the meeting between him, MP Elias Hankach, and House Speaker Nabih Berri was serious, constructive, and transparent.

He emphasized the importance of holding the presidential election in the January 9 session and moving beyond procrastination and maneuvering to reactivate the state, particularly in light of the challenges unfolding in the region.

In an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio station, Dagher said: "We can no longer afford the luxury of delaying the elections. Speaker Berri has confirmed his support for this direction, suggesting a single session with consecutive rounds of voting until a president is elected. We have affirmed that the election must produce a president capable of addressing the challenges."

"There is broad consensus on the real implementation of UNSC Resolution 1701 in all its aspects and across all Lebanese territories, which means exclusive control over arms. Therefore, we seek a president who embraces this project, which has been agreed upon by all, including those who were once at war," he indicated.

"In the long term, we aim to build a true state, which means the president must champion this vision, one that necessitates a true reconciliation and transparency conference among the Lebanese to begin the process of constructing a new Lebanon based on new principles. This vision includes the establishment of a genuine state, free from sectarianism and corruption, where all citizens are equal," Dagher went on to say.

"We reject any scenario where a sect or group feels defeated. The other side must understand that we are brothers, and we must build the country based on the principles of sovereignty and statehood," he concluded.
