Dagher: Meetings During Social Events Do Not Turn into Dialogues

Kataeb Secretary-General Serge Dagher on Tuesday pointed out that no dialogue would be held between the Kataeb Party and Hezbollah as the latter is not serious about it in a bid to reach any result, recalling the dialogue that was held years ago between the two parties when a committee was formed.

“If the Kataeb Party ever decides to hold a meeting with any party then it would announce it publicly without any sort of secrecy,” Dagher said in an interview with LBCI.

“It is clear that Hezbollah is publishing news concerning its desire to hold a dialogue whether with the Kataeb Party or with the Maronite Patriarchate or with the Lebanese Forces.  It might be experiencing a crisis and wants to send a message to the allies,” he noted.

“The Kataeb Deputies meet with Hezbollah Deputies meet every day in committees. We, as the Kataeb Party, do not need side channels to hold a dialogue with Hezbollah. We are ready to hold a dialogue with it once it decides to raise the file of its illegal weapons, to be a Lebanese party and to stop covering the ruling elite,” he pointed out.

"Turning social events into a dialogue with Hezbollah is a media attempt that some are trying to benefit from for an unknown reason," he said.

He reiterated that the report published by “Al Akhbar Newspaper”, that a meeting between Hezbollah and Kataeb Party was recently held at Hezbollah’s offices, at the request of the latter, was untrue.

“You either live equally with all the Lebanese and abide by the State’s laws or you push the Lebanese towards divorce,” Dagher said addressing Hezbollah.
