Dagher Deems Lack of Quorum in President Election Session as Moral Crisis

Kataeb Secretary General Serge Dagher said that what was preventing the deputies from electing a new Head of State until this moment was neither the system nor the democracy but rather the irresponsability and lack of political morals in Lebanon.

“The Kataeb Party stands against the manipulation of the Lebanese Constitution according to interests,” Dagher said in an interview with Al Jadeed.

“We are still waiting for an answer from Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri regarding the constitutional article on which he relied on concerning the issue of securing quorum and until then we will take the right decisions,” he noted.

Dagher stressed the Kataeb Party’s commitment to the implementation of the Lebanese Constitution.

“We do not want a president who represents the resistance axis. We will not elect Frangieh as he carries the same project that led us into the current deteriorated crisis,” he pointed out.

Dagher reiterated Kataeb Party’s nomination of MP Michel Mouawad to president, saying that the opposition deputies have not agreed on one candidate.
