Lebanese Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri, met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and his delegation at Ain al-Tineh Palace.
The discussions covered the general situation, political developments in Lebanon and the region, and Israel's ongoing aggression against Gaza and southern Lebanon.
Borrell expressed concern about the Gaza conflict expanding to Lebanon, emphasizing the need to halt the war in Gaza as a priority for restoring calm to Lebanon. Speaker Berri commended the EU's role in UNIFIL peacekeeping forces and reiterated Lebanon's commitment to international legitimacy, emphasizing the importance of implementing UN Resolution 1701 by stopping Israeli aggression and withdrawing from occupied Lebanese territories.
On the internal political front, Berri underscored the significance of completing the presidential entitlement despite Israel's aggressive war, expressing readiness to cooperate with the Five-Year Committee's efforts in this regard.
Additionally, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati received today at his residence in Beirut the European Union High Representative Josep Borrell, with an accompanying delegation, in the presence of Advisor to the Prime Minister, former Minister Nicolas Nahhas, Ambassador Boutros Assaker, and Mr. Ziad Mikati.
Talks during the meeting centered on the cooperation between the Lebanese government and the European Union on social and economic issues and administrative reforms.
In this context, the Prime Minister stressed that "the issue of displaced Syrians must be resolved by supporting them in their country to encourage them to return."
