Hezbollah called on supporters Thursday to participate in an event projecting images of its late leaders, Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine, on Beirut’s Rawshe Rock, defying a government ban on using archaeological and tourist sites without authorization.
In an official statement, the party said the event marks the first anniversary of the deaths of Nasrallah and Safieddine. It invited supporters to gather at Rawshe at 6:00 p.m.
Supporters were reported arriving at the site carrying party flags and operating loudspeakers. MTV reported that Hezbollah remains committed to carrying out the illumination despite the government’s directive.
Authorities have deployed security forces to the area. MTV noted that security deployment would begin in the afternoon to prevent disruptions and facilitate the commemoration, noting that parts of the surrounding area may be blocked.
The Ministry of Interior summoned the heads of all security agencies due to the tense atmosphere surrounding the gathering.
Meanwhile, MTV reported that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri is reportedly displeased with Hezbollah’s decision to reverse an agreement reached on Wednesday regarding the Rawshe Rock illumination. LBCI pointed out that videos circulating on social media of a procession carrying Amal Movement flags are from previous occasions and not related to Thursday’s gathering.
