The Lebanese army said on Wednesday it is repositioning some border posts and implementing exceptional security measures as Israeli attacks continue across various parts of the country, alongside what it described as Israeli ground incursions into Lebanese territory.
In a statement issued by the Army Command, the military said the ongoing Israeli strikes, coupled with troop advances inside Lebanon, constitute a “blatant violation of international resolutions” and an infringement of Lebanese sovereignty. The statement also referred to recent rocket and drone launches from Lebanese territory.
The army said it is carrying out the decisions of the country’s political leadership in a manner that safeguards what it called the “supreme national interest.”
The military added that it is coordinating with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the ceasefire supervision committee, known as the “Mechanism,” in efforts to halt Israeli attacks.
Within its designated sectors of responsibility and in light of limited available resources, army units are repositioning certain border points and enforcing exceptional security measures aimed at maintaining stability and preventing armed displays across various regions.
As part of those measures, army checkpoints over the past two days detained 26 Lebanese nationals and one Palestinian in several areas for illegally possessing weapons and ammunition, according to the statement.
The military also said it has reinforced its presence along the eastern border in coordination with the relevant Syrian authorities.
The Army Command urged citizens to comply with instructions issued by deployed units to ensure their safety. Seized weapons and ammunition have been handed over to the appropriate authorities, and investigations with the detainees have begun under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
