President Joseph Aoun on Monday congratulated the winners of the first round of municipal elections, praising the vote as a meaningful display of democracy and a step forward on Lebanon’s path to recovery.
Aoun praised the transparent atmosphere and strong voter turnout during Sunday’s elections in Mount Lebanon Governorate, the first region to vote in the multi-phase electoral process. He deemed the people's engagement as a testament to the public’s commitment to local governance and belief in its role in fostering community development.
“This election is a sign of hope,” Aoun told visitors at the presidential palace. “It proves that Lebanon is progressing on a course of renewal and recovery, despite the many crises and challenges we have faced.”
The president acknowledged the efforts of the Interior Ministry and security forces in facilitating a smooth and orderly electoral process. He also extended his appreciation to all those involved in the vote’s success, from civil servants to local authorities, and thanked the media for their comprehensive coverage throughout the day.
While praising the integrity of the elections, Aoun emphasized that the real work begins after the ballots are cast.
“The real responsibility starts now,” he said. “Serving the public and addressing their needs must remain the driving force behind municipal and local leadership.”
He added that while elections naturally involve competition, they should ultimately serve to strengthen national unity and solidarity among citizens.
