Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Thursday congratulated the government on securing the confidence of Parliament, emphasizing the importance of national dialogue and the role of opposition in the country’s democratic system.

"I appreciate the confidence granted by the lawmakers and respect the stance of those who withheld it, as opposition in our parliamentary democratic system is a right, a duty, a necessity, and a responsibility," Aoun said in a statement.

The president also extended his gratitude to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and MPs for fulfilling their constitutional duty in the confidence vote.

"I commend the national positions that have embraced dialogue and upheld the authority of the Lebanese State in major national matters," he said, adding that these positions, reflected in "a series of significant statements in recent days," form a foundation for the country’s recovery efforts.
