At the end of September, when Israel’s campaign to destroy Hezbollah was reaching its height, I met one of the group’s supporters in a seaside café in western Beirut. He was a middle-aged man with a thin white beard and the spent look of someone who had not slept for days. The Ambassadors of the five-nation group on Lebanon, which comprises the U.S., France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt, will meet Wednesday at the U.S. embassy in Awkar, the Nidaa al-Watan newspaper said.
The daily said U.S. Ambassador Lisa Johnson will head the meeting.
Crisis-hit Lebanon has been without a president since Michel Aoun's term ended in October 2022, with neither of the two main blocs -- Hezbollah and its opponents -- having the majority required to elect one.
The international community and the five-nation group have long urged Lebanese leaders to end months of political wrangling and stem the financial meltdown.
