Pharmacists’ Syndicate Threatens a Walkout as of Monday

The Pharmacists’ Syndicate on Friday vowed to call for the closure of Pharmacies throughout Lebanon as of Monday in the event that authorities abstain from releasing a member who was arrested in Jeb Jenin the day before.

"The member was arrested on account of finding expired medicines in his pharmacy. The medicines were there because special pharmaceutical “agents” previously tasked with collecting expired drugs had not done so," Head of Pharmacists' Syndicate Joe Salloum said.

"Despite legislation mandating the return of outdated medications, these agents have stopped collecting them from pharmacies," he added.

Salloum concluded that in the event that the Jeb Jenin pharmacist was not released by the authorities, the syndicate reserved the right to take any and all legal measures, including Monday's shutdown.
