National Moderation Bloc Endorses General Aoun’s Candidacy for Presidency

The National Moderation bloc announced its support for the election of Army Commander General Joseph Aoun as Lebanon’s next president. This statement was made following a meeting held at the bloc’s headquarters in Saifi, attended by MPs Walid Baarini, Mohammad Suleiman, Abdel Aziz Al-Samad, Saji Atieh, Ahmad Rostom, and Ahmad Al-Khair.

The bloc emphasized that since the beginning of Lebanon’s presidential vacuum, it has not been part of any political alignment or division. Instead, it has consistently worked toward bridging gaps and fostering national unity. The bloc has initiated several efforts to promote consensus, believing that only a united approach could lead to the election of a president, restore national partnerships, and launch a new presidential and governmental term that could address Lebanon’s political and economic challenges.

Highlighting the recent opportunity for national consensus, the bloc praised the support from both Arab and international actors for General Aoun’s candidacy. The bloc expressed confidence that Aoun's leadership qualities meet the demands of Lebanon’s current and future challenges, both at home and internationally. It reiterated the importance of acting swiftly to elect a president and avoid wasting yet another opportunity for progress.

The National Moderation bloc made it clear that it will continue to intensify its efforts to build support for General Aoun, stressing that the country cannot afford further delays or political paralysis. The bloc urged all parties to seize this moment to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty and legitimacy, marking a hopeful turn towards recovery, reconstruction, and reform.
