Kataeb Party Voices Its Refusal Over Any Legislation Amidst Presidential Vacuum

The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:

1-  The Kataeb Leader stresses the importance of martyrdom and sacrifices of those who died for the sake of Lebanon, considering Minister Pierre Gemayel’s martyrdom as a meeting point between Kataeb Party’s founding and Independence Day.

The Kataeb Leader and the Party’s Political Bureau reiterates their commitment to continue the struggle in national work for the service of Lebanon based on honesty and sincerity.

2- The Political Bureau reaffirms its rejection over any legislation in light of  presidential vacuum, first, pursuant to the operative provisions of the Constitution in its relevant articles 73, 74, and 75, and secondly, because the one concerned with signing the laws to become effective is the President of the Republic in accordance with Articles 56, 57, and 58 of the Constitution. Therefore, any law passed in the coming period remains ineffective. Thirdly, there is no government to ensure the implementation of laws. Fourthly, and most importantly, the Political Bureau refuses to adapt to the anomalous situation represented by the vacancy of the presidency, and to submit to the vacuum and organize it instead of proceeding immediately to electing a president and restoring order to institutions and public life in the country.

3- The Kataeb Party congratulates the winners in the elections of the Bar and Physiotherapists Syndicates, saying that these elections were marked by a remarkable Kataeb presence, stressing the necessity of fortifying, strengthening and activating this presence.

The meeting was exclusively held in Bickfaya prior to the 16th memorial mass of Martyr Minister Pierre Gemayel and his comrade Samir Chartouni.
