Members of the Kataeb Party’s parliamentary bloc, led by party leader MP Samy Gemayel, met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Grand Serail on Monday to discuss recent developments within Lebanon.
The delegation also included MPs Salim Sayegh, Nadim Gemayel, and Elias Hankach.
After the meeting, Gemayel praised Salam’s leadership, commending his “firmness and courageous stance” in the face of significant challenges. He said the combined efforts of Salam, President Joseph Aoun, and the cabinet represent a “historic opportunity” for Lebanon to regain stability and offer hope for a brighter future for its citizens and generations to come.
Acknowledging the difficult road ahead, Gemayel expressed confidence in the wisdom of both the prime minister and president to “achieve the desired results.”
He also paid tribute to the Lebanese Army, which recently suffered casualties defending the country’s sovereignty and asserting state authority across its territory.
“The blood of these brave soldiers are a responsibility for all of us,” Gemayel said, emphasizing the need to continue strengthening State control. He extended condolences to the army’s leadership and the families of the fallen.
On the subject of Iranian influence and the planned visit of Iranian official Ali Larijani to Lebanon, Gemayel blasted Tehran’s interference. He stated that the Kataeb Party “categorically rejects” all statements from Iranian leaders — including those from Supreme Leader Khamenei’s advisor, the foreign minister, his deputy, and Revolutionary Guard officials — calling them violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and encroachments on the country’s independent decisions.
“These statements are unacceptable in both form and substance,” Gemayel said, urging Iran to “respect Lebanon’s sovereignty, decisions, and national interests.”
He highlighted the heavy toll Lebanon has paid due to Iran’s policies and direct involvement, particularly through funding and arming Hezbollah, which has dragged the country into costly conflicts impacting all Lebanese.
Gemayel concluded by calling on Iran’s leadership to demonstrate “a minimum level of humility” following the region’s turmoil and insisted that Tehran treat Lebanon with “greater respect.”
