Yassine: Damages Caused by Heavy Rains Will Be Surveyed to Determine their Extent

Caretaker Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassine, estimated the number of displaced people from the southern regions at "74,000, according to the latest census conducted a week ago."

"The names of the displaced are documented, in cooperation with the governors in the south and Nabatieh," Yassine said in an interview with LBCI.

He explained that "most families in the south receive food and cash assistance," noting that "the Ministry of Education and Higher Education helped in transferring the children of these families to schools in the areas they fled to."

Yassine asked for "support from friends of Lebanon, especially in terms of rebuilding the affected southern regions, especially the green spaces that were burned."

Yassine touched on the damages caused by heavy rains, saying: "These damages will be surveyed to determine their extent."

While pointing out that "there are climate changes," he said: "But we are capable of adapting to this reality, and we always insist on conducting an environmental impact for any project established, especially on river courses."

Regarding the appointment of a chief of staff in the Lebanese army, he said: "If the appointment of a chief of staff does not take place by the Ministry of National Defense, the government will bear the responsibility for this matter."
