Wildfire Raging in Akkar Woodlands Highly Damages the Area

For the second day in a row, a wildfire is raging in the woodlands and orchards surrounding the Akkar town of Qobeiyat.

According to L’Orient Today, the fire is still being fought by crews from the Lebanese Army and Civil Defense, the Akkar Trail Association's rapid intervention team, and first responders from the Union of Jurd al-Qayta Municipalities. This is especially true on the steep slopes that fire engines cannot reach.

The Qabeet fire caused losses of "10 hectares of agricultural land (olive) and woodland (pine and oak)," according to a report by the Akkar Trail Association. It was claimed that the quick intervention helped save at least 140 more hectares from burning.

According to the assessment, the fire severely damaged 65 percent of the area it affected.
