U.S. Source Dismisses Reports That Barrack’s Lebanon Plan Was Abandoned

U.S. envoys Thomas Barrack and Morgan Ortagus remain in close coordination on Lebanon, a U.S. official told LBCI on Monday, denying media reports that the roadmap put forth by Barrack has been dropped.

Some reports suggested Barrack had failed to present the American roadmap, also dubbed as "Barrack's paper," to Israel, or that Ortagus was abandoning her colleague's approach in favor of her own, which prioritizes maintaining the ceasefire and stabilizing the border before addressing demarcation and, eventually, the disarmament of Hezbollah. The U.S. source stressed that both envoys are “continuing close coordination and cooperation” on the Lebanese file.

The issue of weapons featured prominently during a meeting between President Joseph Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who discussed the broader situation in Lebanon and recent developments in the wake of the latest Cabinet session.

After the meeting, Berri delivered a brief comment, invoking the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary: “By the blessings of Our Lady Mary, everything is fine.”

In a related development, Berri met with Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Rodolph Haykal, who told reporters from Ain al-Tineh that he is “always” comfortable with the current situation.
