President Joseph Aoun has received confirmation of a €17 million grant from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to support the Lebanese Army, as preparations continue for military deployment in southern Lebanon under the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The announcement was made during a meeting between President Aoun and two senior UNITAR officials — Evariste Karambizi, Director of the Peacekeeping Training Program, and Rabih Haddad, Head of the Diplomatic Division.
The grant is earmarked for bolstering logistical readiness and training capabilities of army units slated for deployment in the region.
Simultaneously, a U.S. military delegation is carrying out an inspection tour in southern Lebanon, specifically in areas south of the Litani River, in coordination with the Lebanese Army.
