Supermarkets Reduced Their Prices in Dollars by 7.3%

The continuous decline in dollar prices on the black market reflects positively on the dollar-priced items in the supermarkets, since the decline occurred automatically and immediately, while previously, it took between one week and 10 days to update the prices according to the new dollar’s exchange rate.

Head of Supermarket Owners, Nabil Fahed, pointed out to Al-Joumhouriya Newspaper that a study that included 20 basic items was conducted between January 15 and March 22, and its results showed either a decrease or stability in prices.

Fahed revealed that the rate of decline reached 7.3%, which makes the pricing process in dollars very successful and in the interest of consumers, as it creates as well clear competition between supermarkets.

As for commodities that are still priced in Lebanese Lira, Fahd saw that they reflect the lack of clarity in pricing, revealing that more than 95% of suppliers have recently priced their products in dollars.

He explained that the supermarkets adopted pricing in Lebanese Lira for commodities whose invoices are paid to the supplier in local currency.
