Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel called on Friday for peace in Lebanon, highlighting the struggles of families displaced by conflict and urging the country to step back from regional wars.
Marking Eid al-Fitr in a post on X, Gemayel expressed solidarity with displaced families, particularly the children who have grown up in fear.
“Our hearts go out to every family forced to leave their home, to every child carrying fear instead of holiday joy, and to every household that has lost a loved one, leaving an empty chair at the table this Eid,” he wrote.
“This Eid, we pray for a wounded Lebanon and for the thousands of families paying the price of wars they had no say in and no stake in,” he added.
Gemayel stressed that solidarity must be more than words and that it must be matched by action.
“It’s time to stop turning Lebanon into someone others' battlefield. It’s time to stop undermining the State and dragging our people into destruction, displacement, and chaos,” he said.
He urged a focus on unity and peace for the nation.
“Lebanese want the war to end. They want to live in peace, in one sovereign state, with one army and one decision-making authority that protects them and their future.”
Ending on a hopeful note, Gemayel called on citizens to use the holiday to reaffirm their commitment to life and the country.
“Let this Eid be a moment to hold on to life and to do everything we can to save our country before it’s too late. Eid Mubarak.”
