The head of the Change Movement, lawyer Elie Mahfoud, along with a number of other lawyers, filed a criminal complaint before the Public Prosecutor in the Court of Appeal of Mount Lebanon against Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in relation to the Tayyouneh clashes, the NNA reports.
Here’s what we know:
• “This complaint should be good for the affected families in Ain el-Remmaneh … this complaint includes all the documents and a detailed expert report on the extent of the damage caused after the invasion of Ain el-Remmaneh,” Mahfoud said.
• He added that this complaint is not politicized. Parents of the victims “have the right to take their rights, which can only be obtained through the judiciary,” he said. “It is assumed that the body that manages these investigations under the supervision of the judiciary will summon the defendant."
• On Oct. 14, gunfire erupted in Tayyouneh as demonstrators gathered at a protest called by the Amal Movement and Hezbollah to object Judge Tarek Bitar’s “politicization” of the investigation into the 2020 Beirut port explosion.
• At the beginning of last month, at least two Ain el-Remmaneh residents who were arrested following the Tayyouneh clashes were released, their lawyer told L'Orient Today. Sixty-eight people were charged in relation to the clashes that resulted in seven deaths and more than 30 injuries.
