The Military Court chaired by Judge Sakr Sakr, confirmed Thursday its decision to release two of the detainees in the case of the militia fighting that occurred on Oct. 14 in Tayyouneh.
Here’s what we know:
• The released detainees are Jawad Abdel Ahad and Rodrigue Touma.
• The decision to release them originally came from Judge Fadi Sawwan, but it was appealed by the plaintiffs’ lawyers.
• Sixty-eight people have reportedly been charged in connection with the violence, although some have been released over the past weeks.
• The clashes in Tayyouneh took place on Oct. 14, on the sidelines of a demonstration by supporters of Hezbollah and Amal calling for Judge Tarek Bitar to be removed from his leadership position in the Beirut port blast investigation. According to witnesses, following the entry of some protesters into the district of Ain al-Rummaneh, armed clashes broke out with gunmen thought to be close to the Lebanese Forces. The incident left seven people dead.
