Army Commander: Lebanon Needs Further Support to Carry out Its Duties

Lebanese Army Commander Joseph Aoun on Thursday stressed that Lebanon is experiencing an unprecedented economic crisis, saying that the army, today, more than ever needs support so as to carry out its duties although it is getting a local and international support.

“The Lebanese military is the one and only institution that is still holding up. It is the insurance of the security and stability in Lebanon and the region,” Aoun said during an international and virtual conference held in support of the Lebanese army.

The Army Commander praised the Lebanese army for its performance amid the current critical circumstances, despite the collapse of the Lebanese lira which has caused a 90 % reduction of the soldiers’ salaries.

“The ongoing deterioration of the economic and financial situation in Lebanon will definitely lead to the collapse of the institutions, including the military,” he pointed out.

“We believe that we will overcome this critical and difficult situation through the will of our soldiers and the support of the Lebanese people and the friendly countries,” Aoun concluded .
