Ten Referred to Judiciary in Fake Degrees Scandal

Ten individuals have been referred to the competent judiciary for their involvement in the fake university degrees scandal that has been recently uncovered, the Army command announced on Friday.

Earlier this week, the director general of higher education at the Education Ministry was arrested for questioning for his suspected role in the fraudulent scheme.

The Daily Star newspaper had quoted a source as saying that seven executives at the Sidon University College were also arrested in the fraud case.

During questioning, the university executives admitted that they had with Jammal a “financial agreement” according to which they would pass him the names of people who had purchased fake degrees so that he would register them in the ministry’s records as third-year students.
