Kataeb Leader Political Advisor Sassine Sassine indicated that the "Bkerke Document" addresses national issues affecting all Lebanese parties, whether at the level of the presidential vacuum, the Syrian refugees, or the re-establishment of institutions, especially security and military ones, in addition to illegal weapons.
He emphasized that "the Lebanese Army is the first and sole authority responsible for security in Lebanon."
Sassine's remarks came during the "Bil Awal" program on "Voice of Lebanon" radio station, where he pointed out that "the Bkerke Document was agreed upon by the participants in the meetings and discussions, and the text was finalized at the last meeting, with a consensus on respecting and implementing international resolutions, notably UNSC Resolutions 1680, 1959, and 1701."
He considered that "the timing of the document's announcement is in the hands of Bkerke," noting that there were reservations from some parties regarding Hezbollah's illegal weapons and that the Kataeb Party is awaiting a final meeting invitation from Bkerke to clarify this point.
Regarding the remarks made by the Jaafari Mufti, he said: "We know that Bkerke is a national institution, not just a Christian one. It deals with national issues in all their details, and we are well aware that the Jaafari Mufti serves the interests of a political faction that is dragging the country into uncalculated confrontations."
"We cannot take the Mufti's statements seriously as he represents Hezbollah's rhetoric and holds no political or social significance," he noted.
"Everyone knows that Bkerke does not slip into individualistic and sectarian stances; its positions are national, and the rhetoric of treason only represents Hezbollah," he asserted.
Sassine noted that "the invitation from Bkerke was directed to the parliamentary blocs, and the Kataeb Party was represented by MP Nadim Gemayel. The absence of the party leader was due to security reasons following recent threats."
"We did not boycott Bkerke, nor have we boycotted it in the past. We are committed to all the consultations taking place," he affirmed.
Regarding the interaction of the Shiite duo with the Lebanese, he considered that it has become difficult to deal with and coexist with this duo because it practices a policy of superiority, questions others, monopolizes Lebanese decision-making and controls the state apparatus. Meanwhile, Lebanese life is characterized by partnership and equality despite the diversity of sects."
"Any decision related to Lebanon and its sovereignty should be issued by the Lebanese state, not by a group dragging the state into a futile war," he pointed out.
He asked: "What has the 'support war' in the south achieved for Gaza?"
"This war has destroyed the southern regions and displaced its residents to other parts of Lebanon. The only result this war has achieved is serving Iran's interests through Hezbollah," he stated.
Sassine emphasized that "the fundamental problem is that we think about the day after, while the other group is not concerned with the future of Lebanon and its people. Their sole focus is on achieving their external agenda at the expense of the Lebanese state."
"We are all children of this nation, and we must take responsibility for protecting it and respecting one another," he concluded.
