Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Thursday again condemned the recent unauthorized illumination of Rawshe Rock, saying the “biggest loser” in the incident is the credibility of the organizers and those behind it.
Speaking to visiting civic delegations, Salam stressed that restoring the authority of the State requires strict enforcement of the law and holding accountable those who fail to honor their commitments. He noted that the public prosecutor has begun summoning individuals for questioning and has issued warrants for those who failed to appear.
The prime minister also reaffirmed the government’s stance on exclusive State control of weapons.
“The foundation of security and public safety is the State’s monopoly on arms,” he said, adding that citizens cannot feel equal while certain groups retain weapons.
Salam noted that by early next week, one month will have passed since the September 5 decision on weapons consolidation, and the Lebanese army’s first report on implementing the plan will be discussed. He acknowledged that some parties may resist but emphasized that there is no alternative if Lebanon is to secure a future for its citizens and children.
“I have not, and will not, take any other path: one state, one law, one army,” Salam said.
