Salam Reaffirms Lebanon’s Commitment to UN Resolution 1701, Demands Swift Action on Rocket Attack

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has once again warned of the potential for renewed military conflict in Lebanon, urging immediate measures to prevent further escalation.

Salam spoke with Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haikal to assess the situation and called for swift investigations to identify those responsible for what he described as a "reckless" rocket attack from Lebanon. He demanded urgent action to apprehend and prosecute those behind the attack "that threatens Lebanon’s stability and security”, emphasizing the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future. The prime minister also reiterated the need for the Lebanese Army’s continued efforts to ensure that weapons remain under the exclusive control of the state.

In an effort to curb hostilities, Salam held a series of discussions with Arab and international officials, urging them to exert maximum pressure on Israel to halt what he referred to as repeated acts of aggression against Lebanon.

The prime minister reaffirmed Lebanon’s full commitment to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement signed in November. He underscored that the Lebanese Army is solely responsible for securing the country’s borders and that the Lebanese state retains exclusive authority over decisions related to war and peace.
