Salam Reaffirms Commitment to Holding Elections on Time, Emphasizes Expats’ Voting Rights

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam emphasized the government’s commitment to holding parliamentary elections on schedule and ensuring fair and transparent participation for all citizens.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Minister of Social Affairs Haneen Al-Sayyed during a seminar organized by the United Nations Women, Salam outlined key principles guiding Lebanon’s electoral reform efforts, stressing the importance of both government and personal resolve in upholding democratic standards.

“These principles include a firm commitment to holding elections on their scheduled date, without any delay or obstruction, and guaranteeing the right of all Lebanese, both residents and non-residents,,to vote fairly and transparently within their constituencies,” Salam said.

He also highlighted the need to provide safe and transparent conditions for voting, particularly for citizens in the South who have lost their homes and villages, ensuring they should not be denied the right to cast their votes.

Salam called for the implementation of a gender quota of no less than 30% on electoral lists to promote fair representation across all segments of society. He further encouraged women to take an active role at every stage of the electoral process, from supervision and organization to voting and candidacy.
