Salam Races to Form Government Amid Hopes for Unprecedented Speed

Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam has launched an intensive effort to finalize the formation of a new government, with hopes of achieving what would be an unprecedentedly swift cabinet formation in Lebanon's recent history. If successful, Salam’s government could be announced before the end of next week.

While Salam has avoided publicly committing to a specific timeline for completing his cabinet lineup, Annahar cited sources as suggesting he is focused on securing a swift agreement with President Joseph Aoun.

As part of his efforts, Salam held a meeting with MPs Ali Hassan Khalil and Mohammad Raad, alongside Hezbollah political official Hussein Khalil. Discussions centered on the composition of the new government and the perspectives of the Shiite Amal-Hezbollah duo. Early indications point to the participation of the Shiite duo in the upcoming government.

Current proposals suggest a 24-member cabinet made up primarily of technocrats, with no MPs or party-affiliated figures included. Salam is reportedly working to finalize the government before next Sunday, aligning with the 60-day deadline outlined in the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
