Rockets Fired from Lebanon Into Israel, Defense Minister Vows Retaliation

Five rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel on Saturday, prompting the Israeli military to respond with artillery fire, according to reports.

The attack targeted the border community of Metula, with the Israeli army confirming that its air defenses intercepted three projectiles that crossed the border. The other two rockets reportedly fell short, landing within Lebanese territory.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said he instructed the army to retaliate following the rocket fire.

“We will not allow a reality where fire from Lebanon threatens the Galilee communities. We have promised security to the Galilee, and that is exactly what will happen,” Katz said.

In a statement that appeared to threaten broader action, Katz warned that “the fate of Metula is the same as Beirut,” holding Lebanese authorities responsible for the attack.

“The Lebanese government bears responsibility for any fire originating from its territory. I have instructed the Israeli military to respond accordingly,” he added.

Israeli army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held a situational assessment over the rocket fire from Lebanon.

The military said it holds the Lebanese government responsible for the ceasefire violation, vowing to respond to the attack "severely."

According to information obtained by Lebanese broadcaster LBCI, Hezbollah has informed the President and Prime Minister that it had no involvement in the rocket attack. The group emphasized its commitment to maintaining the ceasefire and ruled out any desire to flare up tensions again.
