Residents of the southern Lebanese border town of Rmeish have received repeated calls from the Israeli army instructing them not to allow any Hezbollah members to enter the village. The messages reportedly asked that the instructions be shared with all communities along the border, emphasizing that residents could remain in the area only if they refrained from hosting or protecting any Hezbollah personnel.
The town’s mayor, Hanna Al-Ameel, told LBCI that some residents had also been contacted directly by the Israeli army and ordered to remove displaced people who had sought refuge in Rmeish from nearby towns and villages, including Bint Jbeil, Hneit, and Aitaroun. Approximately 200 displaced people were told to leave immediately or face the possibility that all residents of Rmeish — currently home to roughly 6,000 people — could be forced to evacuate.
Al-Ameel said the municipality coordinated with the Lebanese army’s South Litani sector, the Ministry of Interior, and the ceasefire "mechanism" committee to manage the evacuation. Under the plan, the displaced residents would be escorted by the Lebanese army to Sidon, with the operation set to begin at 3 p.m. from a central gathering point in Rmeish.
The mayor noted that the displaced individuals had understood the difficult position of the town’s residents, who had hosted them in their homes without compensation.
The town’s mukhtar had also received a direct message from the Israeli army warning that anyone affiliated with Hezbollah remaining in the area would be targeted.
