Lebanon and Deficient Sovereignty
In a televised interview, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam sought to outline a vision for bringing the state back into the sovereignty equation and breaking the link between the logic of the state and the logic of force. He insisted that decisions of war and peace must be made by the government alone, and that the era of foreign guardianship is over. Regional Spillover Threat Looms as Israel-Hezbollah Clashes Persist, Warns Guterres
The risk of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict widening is increasing daily, with frequent clashes between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, stated UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a written address prepared for the Security Council meeting on the Middle East.
"The specter of further regional spillover is increasing by the day, as exchanges of fire across the Blue Line between Hezbollah and Israel continue," Guterres noted in a statement read by his Cabinet Chief Earle Courtenay Rattray.
