In his Sunday sermon, Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi urged the government to open markets for agricultural production, improve the livelihood of farmers and producers, enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of agricultural production chains, and adapt to climate change.
Al-Rahi also called on expats to promote Lebanese crops and for international organizations to support a more sustainable food system.
Regarding the presidential file, Al-Rahi criticized officials for prioritizing their own interests and causing the demolition of state institutions, starting with the presidential vacuum, which has led to the loss of legislative power for parliament, deprived the government of its full powers, and spread corruption in the country.
He also expressed concern over the increasing threat posed by Syrian refugees and urged officials to take action.
