PM Salam Says "People, Army, Resistance" Era Is Over

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam declared that the "People, Army, Resistance" trilogy is now a thing of the past, emphasizing that his government's ministerial statement clearly asserts the State’s exclusive authority over decisions of war and peace.

In an interview with Al Arabiya/Al Hadath, Salam firmly stated that there would be no surrender or submission to any compromises.

He also stressed that the government includes no direct party representation and, therefore, maintains an equal distance from all political factions.

"We’ve squandered many opportunities in Lebanon — the first being our failure to implement the Taif Agreement," Salam said, adding that international bodies recognize the Lebanese army’s effective role in the south.

He further revealed that the government has already begun working with donors to kickstart reconstruction efforts, pointing out that the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons was effectively closed after the ministerial statement.

"Israel uses Hezbollah’s arms as a pretext to maintain its presence in the south," he said. "It must fully withdraw, and we’re applying both Arab and international pressure to make that happen."

Salam concluded by affirming that all ministers are aligned on the same path, albeit moving at different speeds, and underscored that the ministerial statement calls for the State to assert full authority over every inch of Lebanese territory, relying solely on its own national forces.
