Opposition MPs Rally Behind Makhzoumi for Prime Minister Role

Opposition lawmakers announced their support for MP Fouad Makhzoumi for the premiership, as President Joseph Aoun is set to kick off parliamentary consultations on Monday to appoint a prime minister who will form the country's new cabinet.

Following thorough discussions on the political situation, the MPs made it clear that Makhzoumi is their chosen candidate for the role.

In a statement issued after their meeting, the opposition MPs emphasized their commitment to supporting the rescue measures needed for Lebanon, as outlined in the president’s inaugural speech. They highlighted the necessity of governmental support and a fresh approach to governance.

The statement stressed the importance of moving away from the past, characterized by "quotas and corruption," and adopting a new direction for Lebanon's future. The opposition MPs expressed their intent to "fortify this new path," signaling their determination to break free from old practices and foster a new era of governance.

"After in-depth discussions on the political landscape and in light of the need to turn a new page regarding the premiership, the opposition MPs decided to support the nomination of MP Fouad Makhzoumi and endorse him in the upcoming binding parliamentary consultations on Monday."
