Najib Mikati Urges Donor Countries to Reconsider Funding for UNRWA

Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called on donor countries to reassess their funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).

Mikati emphasized the urgent and necessary nature of this funding, highlighting that it addresses a cause not chosen by Palestinians but imposed upon them.

In a meeting with the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon, Dorothée Klaus, and the Chairman of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, Dr. Bassel al-Hassan, Mikati underscored the importance of considering the unique situation of UNRWA in Lebanon.

He pointed out the Lebanese context's specificities that should be considered when discussing funding for the agency.

Mikati pledged to continue engaging with donor countries through conferences and meetings to advocate for a reconsideration of funding for UNRWA. He stressed the direct repercussions that the funding decisions could have on the overall situation in Lebanon.

The Prime Minister's call comes amidst ongoing challenges faced by UNRWA in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and across the region.

Mikati's efforts aim to ensure continued support for UNRWA's vital humanitarian mission, which is crucial in assisting vulnerable communities and upholding their rights.
