Kataeb MP Nadim Gemayel met with Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Elias Audi in Beirut on Wednesday, leading a delegation that included the party's Vice President, Dr. Bernard Gerbaka as well as members of the political bureau and representatives from the city’s four districts.
During the visit, Gemayel extended holiday greetings to the Metropolitan, wishing him “a blessed year filled with peace, health, and well-being.”
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss Lebanon’s political situation, with Gemayel stressing the urgent need to end the presence of illegal weapons in the country.
“There is absolutely no justification for carrying arms outside the authority of the State,” he said, adding that civil peace can no longer be used as a bargaining chip against sovereignty, justice, or reconstruction.
Gemayel cautioned that any future reconstruction efforts or use of taxpayer funds must be conditional on the complete disarmament of non-state armed groups.
“This is the only way to prevent a repeat of the crises, destruction, and tragedies we have endured in the past,” he said, emphasizing that full disarmament is crucial for building a future in which all Lebanese citizens can participate equally, without any group repeatedly bearing the costs.
