Nadim Gemayel: Time for Lebanon to Overcome Tyranny and Build a Strong, Independent State

Kataeb Lawmaker Nadim Gemayel affirmed that "the new phase in Lebanon stems from the Lebanese people's will for change and their determination to liberate the country from all forms of pressure, whether Iranian and Hezbollah influence or Syrian dominance."

In an interview with Voice of Lebanon 100.5, Gemayel remarked, "The recent fundamental transformations have proven that we were on the right side of history—advocating for justice, sovereignty, freedom, human dignity, and a decent livelihood. We were justified in every political stance we took, despite efforts by some to distort history and facts."

He further explained that "the Lebanese people have been fighting for over thirty years, and today, they have achieved their goal by overcoming Syrian and Iranian tyranny.

The flags of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard have been brought down in Damascus and Beirut. We now hope that the Yemeni and Iraqi people will also be liberated from this oppression to pave the way for stability and peace in the region. It is time for the Arab world to evolve and assert its place on the global stage."

He emphasized that "the alignment of international will with the popular will, as reflected in the parliament, has introduced a new trajectory. We hope this path will continue to its fullest potential."

"The key priority is to reform the Lebanese administration and dismantle the political system shaped by the Syrian regime and exploited by Hezbollah. The moment has come to deconstruct or cleanse this deep state to set Lebanon back on its natural course, transforming it into a strong, independent, and free country that fully implements all international resolutions, especially Resolution 1701 in its entirety," Gemayel added.

He continued, "If the duo chooses to boycott, it will be excluding itself. The previous phase of the state was one of failure, and today we face two options: either we remain in this failed state and adapt to it, or we move forward toward building a real state—one that includes no exclusion or marginalization of anyone but is founded on true partnership and governed by the Lebanese Constitution."

He emphasized that "Hezbollah must understand that the equation has changed. The use of its weapons domestically under the pretext of liberating the South is no longer valid. Hezbollah's role as a defender or resistance force is a narrative that must be abandoned, paving the way for genuine partnership in building the state together."

He pointed out, "After Hezbollah’s loss in the war and the collapse of its narrative, it has resorted to relying on the state for reconstruction. However, it must understand that it is not the state, and the state does not belong to it or any other faction."

Gemayel advised Hezbollah to "reassess its approach and draw lessons from the current reality. What is needed is for Lebanon to win as a whole and for the Shia community to feel that it is part of this victory."

He stated, "The biggest victims in Lebanon are the Shia community and Shia-majority regions. Reconstruction will not happen if the state continues on its previous path. Lebanon’s only support will come from European and Arab nations, and aid will be exclusively channeled through the Lebanese state. If Hezbollah remains obstinate and continues its previous approach, it will remain the primary loser, and reconstruction in its areas will not take place."
