Nadim Gemayel: Municipal Elections Pave the Way for 2026 Parliamentary Change

Ahead of casting his vote in Lebanon’s municipal elections, MP Nadim Gemayel underscored the importance of the vote in improving citizens' lives and fostering local development.

Gemayel emphasized that the elections should serve the public interest, noting that the ultimate power lies in the hands of the citizens, who will have the responsibility to choose their representatives.

"The purpose of these elections is to serve the people, drive regional development, and enhance the daily lives of all citizens. Ultimately, it is the people who have the final say, and it is their responsibility to make the right choice," he said.

"I urge everyone to head to the polls and exercise their democratic right and duty to voice their desire for change. These elections certainly have family, developmental, and political aspects, but ultimately, they are all aimed at serving and benefiting the citizen," he added.

The lawmaker also highlighted how these elections reflect the ongoing shifts in Lebanon, both internally and regionally, adding that they play a key role in setting the stage for the anticipated parliamentary elections in 2026.

"These elections will change the dynamics on the ground, especially in light of the changes within the country and the broader regional shifts, which will lay the foundation for the major change expected in 2026," Gemayel noted.

Moreover, Gemayel stressed the importance of enhancing the relationship between the voters and their representatives, emphasizing that the people must be given the right opportunities. He argued that this could be achieved by improving communication between citizens and their representatives in both Parliament and municipalities.

The MP also called for a reevaluation of Lebanon’s electoral law to ensure genuine decentralization.
