Kataeb Party MP Nadim Gemayel called on Thursday for Lebanon to be kept separate from ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Iran, the United States, and Israel, warning that involvement in the talks would undermine the country’s sovereignty.
Writing on his X account, Gemayel said Lebanon “is not part of Iran, and it will never be,” adding that including Beirut in the process would allow Tehran to exert undue influence over Lebanese decision-making and turn the country into a bargaining chip.
“We may gain a temporary ceasefire and protect lives, but in the long term, we risk losing our sovereignty and our ability to make independent decisions,” he said.
Gemayel emphasized that only the Lebanese State has the authority to negotiate on Lebanon’s behalf.
“Any negotiations must begin with asserting the authority and prestige of the State across its entire territory,” he said, stressing the importance of maintaining national control over security and political matters.
