MP Nadim Gemayel on Friday demanded accountability for all those involved in the 2006 Mar Mikhael Agreement, which he said was imposed on the Lebanese people with serious consequences for the State.

Writing on his X account, Gemayel stated that everyone who “signed, promoted, or helped impose this agreement on the Lebanese people” must be held responsible. He described the accord as a “Christian cover for Hezbollah’s weapons” that came at the expense of Lebanon’s sovereignty, neutrality, and independent decision-making.

The Mar Mikhael Agreement is a memorandum of understanding signed on February 6, 2006, between the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), a Maronite Christian political party led by General Michel Aoun, and Hezbollah. The agreement has long been criticized by opponents for strengthening the militant group’s influence in Lebanon’s political and security landscape.
