On the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, MP Nadim Gemayel marked the tragic historical event, while reflecting on memory and resilience.
“They tried to wipe out an entire people and a civilization that goes back thousands of years, but tyranny fell, the people endured, and the civilization survived. Memory is stronger than forgetting, and truth cannot be erased, no matter how much time passes,” Gemayel wrote in a post on X.
The Armenian Genocide, which began in 1915 during the final years of the Ottoman Empire, saw the mass killing and forced deportation of Armenians, with estimates of the death toll ranging widely but commonly cited at around 1.5 million people. Many countries and historians recognize the events as genocide, while others dispute the characterization.
