Mohammad al-Bashir Appointed to Form New Transitional Government in Syria

Syrian media outlets reported that Mohammad al-Bashir has been tasked with forming a new government to oversee Syria's transitional period. This appointment follows a key meeting between Syrian opposition leader Ahmad al-Sharaa, outgoing Prime Minister Mohammad al-Jalali, and al-Bashir.

Al-Bashir, born in 1983 in southern Idlib Governorate, holds a degree in electrical and electronic engineering with a specialization in communications. He has a diverse professional background, having worked as the head of the precision devices department at the Syrian Gas Company in 2011. Furthermore, al-Bashir served as the Director of Sharia Education at the Ministry of Religious Endowments and Guidance for two and a half years.

In addition to his technical and managerial experience, al-Bashir holds a degree in Sharia law and rights from Idlib University, as well as a certificate in the fundamentals of planning and administrative organization.

Al-Bashir previously held the position of Minister of Development and Humanitarian Affairs in the "Rescue Government" during 2022 and 2023. The "Rescue Government" was established under the influence of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham on November 2, 2017, and initially consisted of 11 ministries, with Mohammad al-Sheikh as its first head. At the time, the "Rescue Government" exercised control over various essential services in the Idlib Governorate, northern Hama, and parts of western Aleppo, areas under opposition control.
