Lebanon's military judiciary has charged 20 individuals, including four detainees and two minors, in connection with the February 15 attack on a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) convoy on Beirut's Airport Road, Al Jadeed reported, citing judicial sources.
Judge Fadi Akiki, the Government Commissioner to the Military Court, has filed charges against the suspects, accusing them of attempting to kill members of the convoy by setting their vehicle on fire, assaulting security forces, and forming a group with the intent of undermining State authority. The charges also include the theft of $29,000 from the wallet of UNIFIL’s deputy commander, who was preparing to leave Lebanon at the end of his mission.
Earlier this month, a vehicle belonging to UNIFIL was set ablaze as supporters of Hezbollah blocked the road to Beirut’s airport in protest against a decision to prevent two Iranian planes from landing in the country's airport.
