Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Tuesday continued his series of meetings at the Grand Serail, focusing on implementing the government's emergency plan.
The PM emphasized that the primary concern uniting Lebanese citizens at this time is addressing the recent Israeli threats and the ongoing aggression against Lebanon.
Mikati underscored the need for international bodies and organizations to fulfill their responsibilities by supporting Lebanon, which is heavily burdened by the Syrian displacement crisis, stressing that the Israeli aggression should further drive Lebanese solidarity and avoid irrelevant debates.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet will discuss in detail tomorrow the measures and procedures related to the national emergency plan and the Syrian refugee issue.
The Prime Minister separately met with Matthew Hollingworth, the Regional Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), with whom he reviewed the program’s operations and its assistance to displaced persons from the south.
The meeting also included the Prime Minister's advisor, Ziad Mikati, and the UN Coordinator.
Mikati, accompanied by Emergency Committee Coordinator, Minister Nasser Yassine, met with UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Imran Reza.
Minister Yassine stated that the meeting focused on coordinating international aid to Lebanon, with future meetings planned with donor representatives.
The PM also met with Acting Director General of General Security, Major General Elias Baissari, with whom he discussed the country’s security situation.
Additionally, Mikati received MP Wael Abou Faour from the Democratic Gathering.
Abou Faour praised Mikati’s efforts and his collaboration with House Speaker Nabih Berri in diplomatic and international outreach aimed at preventing further escalation.
“Lebanon is engaged in significant diplomatic efforts to avoid war and potential external initiatives that could help ease tensions are expected,” Abou Faour said, concluding that a ceasefire in Gaza is crucial for de-escalating regional tensions and curbing Israeli aggression.
