Mikati Confident in Army’s Ability to Overcome Challenges and Defend Lebanon

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati visited Lebanese Army units stationed on the frontlines in the south on Monday, where he was briefed by Army Commander General Joseph Aoun on the situation in the eastern sector.

Mikati’s first stop on his southern tour was at the Army barracks in Marjayoun, where he delivered a powerful message to the troops.

"I must pay tribute to the souls of the Army martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending our land," Mikati said. "I look into your faces and feel immense pride as I sense your high morale and determination to defend the homeland despite all the challenges."

Mikati expressed his confidence in the Army’s ability to rise to the challenges, noting that a meeting would soon be held with the committee overseeing the ceasefire.

"We have many tasks ahead, foremost among them the withdrawal of the enemy from all areas it infiltrated during its recent aggression," he added. "At that point, the Army will fully assume its duties. The Army has never shirked its responsibilities, and we are facing a difficult test that will prove its capability to fulfill all its obligations. I have complete confidence in this."

The Prime Minister also highlighted the Army’s role as a unifying force in Lebanon.

"The Army has consistently demonstrated its role as a unifying force in this country and continues to carry out its duties. All Lebanese people stand by the Army and support it," he affirmed. Despite the military’s limited resources, Mikati noted that the Army has remained resolute in its mission to protect civilians and defend the nation.

Army Commander General Joseph Aoun expressed his gratitude for Mikati’s steadfast support.

"Despite limited resources, the Army has remained steadfast at its posts and has safeguarded civilians," Aoun said. "We will continue our mission because we believe in what we are doing."

Earlier in the day, the Army announced on its official X account that General Joseph Aoun had arrived at the headquarters of the Seventh Infantry Brigade in the Francois Al-Hajj barracks in Marjayoun. There, he met with officers and soldiers, reviewing their tasks and operational conditions.
