Mid-Afternoon Turnout Rates in Europe, Africa, Australia and the Emirates

The turnout rate for the second day of overseas voting in the Lebanese parliamentary elections registered 54.85 percent in Australia and 44.66 percent in the United Arab Emirates, according to official although not definitive figures published Sunday afternoon.

Here’s what we know:

    • Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib said that 7,629 voters had cast their ballots in Dubai, where long queues at polling stations formed despite the scalding temperature. The turnout rate across African states was at 14 percent four hours after the vote had begun.

    • Some 194,348 Lebanese expatriates throughout the seven continents are eligible to vote in Sunday’s oversea polls.

    • On Friday, the first day of expatriate voting, 31,000 voters cast their ballots in Iran and nine Arab countries, resulting in a final turnout rate of 59.49 percent.
